Who is Legible for?
Oregon state and local government staff. Teachers, school staff, and professors. Community leaders, organizers, and club leadership. Basically, anyone with documents they want to make sure are the best they can be.
If you’ve ever written a flyer, newsletter, permission slip, bylaws update, public notice, syllabus, exam, ook, zine, loveletter - Legible is for you.
Is Legible a lawyer?
NO. SO MUCH NO. ALL THE NO.
Legible was built by someone currently in law school, which is very much not the same thing as being a lawyer. Think med student versus surgeon.
Legible can point you toward statutes, regulations, standards, and other sources. It cannot tell you whether you’ve complied with the law, and nothing it says is legal advice. Using it does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone.
Have an actual legal question? Please ask an actual attorney.
Is my information safe?
Legible was built to know as little about you as possible.
There are no user accounts and no database of your submissions. The checks run in your browser, using rules built directly into the tool rather than sending your text to an AI.
Exactly what leaves your device.
Still, please don’t put genuinely sensitive, confidential, or privileged information into any online tool. Legible is helpful. Legible does not need your secrets.
What if I know a way to make Legible better?
Send it on over, Red Rover!
Bug reports. Feature ideas. Missing resources. Accessibility problems. Stale citations. Dream functionality.
I want all of it.
Legible is a free public-interest tool. It is not legal advice, and findings need review by a qualified attorney or accessibility professional before you rely on them. “No issues found” is not the same as “compliant.”
